I began collecting law enforcement insignia in September 1998, and all totalled (including insignia contributed by some other local officers) the collection grew to around fourteen frames, all now located at the Shallotte, NC Police Department. Some of the patches come from around the world in countries like Germany, Austria and Brazil, though most were obtained from Departments within the United States, including some provinces like the Virgin Islands.

What got me started on collecting
During Elementary School I was assigned to write a South Carolina "Chamber of Commerce", the particular city I wrote sent a law enforcement patch in its materials. I never forgot that beautiful patch, and years later thought to begin collecting. Too, my respect and interest perhaps comes from that I was born the daughter of a Korean Veteran [United States Navy] Senior Chief Engineman, Ronie A. Mooney, who served twenty years active, ten years reserves. My father had a lot of pride for the service he had given to his country.
His memorial site is located at: http://ronie-mooney-encs.us

In Memory of Dad
by Sharon Mooney

Thank you Dad,
for all you gave,
to keep this country free,
from terrorists and madmen,
to secure our liberty.

Years of your life,
were sacrificed,
months alone out at sea,
with your brothers of the USN,
deepest thanks to you all, from me.

In our great homeland,
we've been truly blessed with peace,
a nation like no other on earth,
men like you, I thank,
who've fought to keep us free.

The military molded you to their way of life,
and to this day I still admire you,
honesty, respect, dignity, honor,
values you taught me from youth,
solid virtues I hope to aspire to.

You are dearly missed,
by all who knew and loved you,
you brought to us all,
somebody to trust in and believe,
though silent, you always were there,
and you'll always live in our memory.

------

My dad was a good man,
wise and strong,
all the things I strive to be,
much I loved and respected about him, I know,
he learned from the United States Navy.

Tribute to a Special Marine
